Review – Rick & Bubba’s Guide to the Nearly Perfect Marriage
I wasn’t sure how I would like this book, having never heard of Rick or Bubba or their radio show before finding it. The book, by Rick Burgess and Bill “Bubba” Bussey, is a comical (and sometime serious) look at marriage and all it’s imperfections. The book is broken up into short chapters (from only two pages for some up to several pages for others) and designed for laid back reading. The chapters cover many topics including personal habits, shopping, money, sickness and housekeeping. There is also a CD that has the “Best of Rick and Bubba”.
Some of the chapters I really identified with and thought were quite funny. A few were even very thoughtful and sad. Many of the chapters, however, I thought were a little cliche or I didn’t really identify with them. I found that while I read the book, I really didn’t enjoy the whole book overall as much as I thought I might. I thought some of the topics were a little goofy and not as applicable to all couples. I had a hard time finishing it.
I’m sure that fans of the radio show or poeple looking for an easy read would enjoy the book, but for people who want a little more depth to their books, I wouldn’t recommend it.
